This recorded concurrent session from the 2025 NANS Annual Meeting explores the evolving role of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) in comparison to neuraxial neuromodulation therapies, including spinal cord stimulation (SCS) and dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRGS). Using a dynamic PRO/CON debate format, expert faculty examine the appropriateness of these therapies in the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), non-surgical refractory low back pain, and focal distribution neuropathic pain.

In addition to expert-led discussions, the session features oral abstract presentations highlighting emerging clinical and translational research in peripheral nerve stimulation. Through this activity, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the indications, limitations, and clinical decision-making considerations surrounding PNS, SCS, and DRGS, while exploring evolving evidence and future directions in neuromodulation therapy.

Following participation in this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Identify indications for and limitations with PNS utilization.
  • Compare PNS to SCS and DRGS in context of complex regional pain syndrome,  Non-Surgical Refractory Low Back Pain, and  focal distribution neuropathic pain.
  • Better determine appropriateness of differing neuromodulation therapies for treatment of these painful conditions.
