Harnessing the Power of Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation for Chronic Pain
Overview
This session will provide an overview of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques for pain management and co-morbid conditions to provide rehabilitation and restoration of function and quality of life. Four broad types of NIBS for pain will be covered by speakers who are each experts in their respective area of brain stimulation: 1) repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), 2) transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), 3) transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) or cranial electrical stimulation (CES), and 4) non-convulsive electrotherapy and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). The panel will provide a brief background and rationale for these neuromodulatory NIBS techniques in pain, their clinical experience with the devices in each category, and the current scientific evidence and clinical research supporting the use of each type of NIBS for pain.
Target Audience
Advanced Practice Provider, Director, Educator, Engineer, Fellow, Medical student, Neurologist, Nurse/Nurse Practitioner, Physician, Physician’s Assistant, Pain Medicine Physician, Physical Medicine and Rehab Physician, Researcher, Resident, Scientist, Trainee
